you can also make an election to not trigger a taxing event on ceasing to become an Australian tax resident. however when you do all your assets become taxable Australian property which means you'll be subject to Aussie tax (as if an aus resident) to the extent you dispose of these assets while overseas.
ceasing to be an aus resident is more nuanced than simply leaving the country for an extended period of time. if you intend to return in foreseeable future and still hold your entitlement to vote, an abode here etc, you will still be an aus tax resident.
