Your idea of sophistication and mine are obviously very different. But apologies for your confusion.

This is EV (not electric vehicle in this case) - Enterprise Value on near current conditions. We don't know the AUG current cash position to the dollar is because we can only rely on the last quarterly announced figures. They have been drilling since then, so we know it's decreased.

SOI (shares on issue) - diluted. I like to add in outstanding options and performance shares.
SOI - 136,125,000
Options - 16,770,000
1. SOI diluted (including options) - 152,895,000
2. SP (share price) - .093
3. MC (market capitalisation) - 14,219,235
4. Cash (see above note) - 4,550,000
5. EV (enterprise value) - 9,669,235

So current EV $9,669,235 - 3. minus 4.
Say they burnt through $1,550,000 in cash since the quarterly figures. Then EV would be $11,219,235

It's good IMO for comparing junior specs as it gives you a comparison of what the market is valuing the company at when their all-important cash balance is included.
AUG was, at one stage valued at less than its cash balance undiluted, or $36,850 diluted.

Also, when calculating EV, if there is debt involved it gets added to MC before subtracting cash and equivalents.

At the end of the day, it's just another figure to take into consideration after you have decided you like who and how they are running the company and the current and future value you decide the company should and will be IMO.
