Have you been to Bellingen and surrounding areas?. They're pretty pristine. The council runs a tight ship with the town Bellingen. This is some of the best land in Australia. They'd be a lot of reasons why some locals wouldn't want exploration in the area especially the owner of the ranch, regardless of money.
The old mine would be good to see, up close.
