If my memory serves me right, RMS tried their luck exploring in Nevada some years ago and as far as I know nothing came of that.
The companies successfully exploring there are those with specialised knowledge/theories about how the gold was formed there and where to find it - I am not aware of RMS having anything special to bring to the table on the exploration front.
Newmont would have undertaken exploration if it felt there was something there worthwhile of any size. So at best if anything is found it will be a small ore body and probably costly to develop.
It seems to me that the management in RMS has Nevada on its brain. Well its close to the US gambling capital so there must be some virtue in this project - plus they can get to the Nevada gold conference once a year on the cheap while they are doing some drilling.
It's only $8m over 8 years in expenditure, but I think the money could have been much better spend on exploration in Oz or in west Africa (eg Ivory Coast which is welcoming to explorers and has a good tax regime and lots of unexplored greenstone).
