Don't want to get stuck on this consolidation chatter as it's just that, but could someone help me understand why shareholders might be worse off in the event of one? I thought I understood it but perhaps I dont.

I dont have a lot of answers for you but generally market sentiment for consolidations is negative. it is generally seen as ill discipline from the board issuing shares without enough thought bloating the registry, and hence share price generally retreats after them (not a hard rule but definitely the majority).
