VNIR maps are on the public domain and can be acquired from Geoscience Australia or CSIRO. Some minerals like REEs, Iron and others (see references below) will register a VNIR signal by readily absorbing that particular spectroscopy wavelength. I believe this is only applicable for surficial mineralogy so anything undercover wont register much of a signal.
Dwayne Sparks has compared VNIR raster maps for the the KFM and DRE sites. Assuming each image is mapped at the same resolution then one can conclude that:
1. there are VNIR signals at both KFM and DRE
2. the DRE VNIR signal covers a larger surficial area than KFM
3. there is a higher probability of finding those minerals that respond to VNIR on surface geolgoy at the DRE site than KFM
Not sure if this mapping provides any benefit as the Gascoyne is full of ironstone? So a VNIR signal may not necessarily include REEs. It could just be all surface iron oxide?
