LTR has the best Esg (60%+ renewable power) and premium spodumene and the only tier 1 in the west coming online in 2024. It’s hard to miss. But both US and AU gov chose to have nothing to do with it. I suppose the visits of TO TG and RC at the US dept of energy in 2022 was to test the funding waters and didn’t find any interest. So Ltr will have to carve its own path forward with its own tools and legs.
It seems that there is lack of focus on midstream in the supply chain with so many battery factories being built but with little govt- backed initiatives in conversion. If that’s china’s virtual monopoly, shouldn’t the west at least invest many billions to address this gap asap? Where are the investments in conversion facility? Even albemarle cannot run its WA conversion plant without summoning the Chinese folks.
So I guess China will control this space until it cannot. The runaway prices in 2022 gave China a wake up call and they were poised for it seemingly as the elevated prices quickly crashed. Even if it takes a supposed $200 billion to take back control, they’ve done it without hesitation and is continuing.
And the point? LTR seemed to have taken a cautious and pragmatic approach to sell to the Chinese. If no US or AU govt support for its conversion aspirations, it will have to rely on its own financial ability which may take longer for the downstream to fulfil.
So yes the China Offtake doesn’t look consistent with what’s been done with the first 3 offtakes. But it’s probably like working at the corporate. You’ll find you’re on your own-no real friends at work just professional working connections . Ltr is on its own.
The predators @anatol are the same, ruthless, shameless, hungry, angry, just out there keen to find a weak and easy prey. I’ve seen buffalo’s kill lions. So strength only become evident by the outcome they will eventuate. They won’t chance their tactics. Gina has sacrificed $1.4 billion and will want to get something back.
I don’t consider her a backer of Ltr as the media try to depict her. Hancock is hungry for big money imo.
