Europe seeks defence pact with Australia as tanks head to Ukraine
The European Union is seekinga defence pact with Australiato deepen military co-operation in a move that highlights fears of a sharp increase in global instability. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen revealed the idea in talks with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese after theinaugural Mass for Pope Leo XIVat the Vatican on Sunday, saying it could add to European military ties with South Korea and Japan that have cleared the way for closer intelligence work and joint exercises.
