Back in the day most banks and etc realised that investing in their core business is a better use of their capital than owning property. It was either the 80s or 90s that I read this. It does make sense. So they sold their branches and now lease. In other words, the opportunity cost of owning a branch is the money that they could make with that capital elsewhere.
Something like that.
There are a number of bargains to be had on the market. The opportunity cost of buying a struggling non-dividend paying stock is not buying ANZ with a PE of about 11 and dividends every 6 months.
