Talga Group, a manufacturer of battery anodes, will start a new test mining of graphite near Vittangi in the municipality of Kiruna.

The project will start in September and during the test mining 25,000 tonnes of graphite are planned to be extracted.
The new test breaks will take place in Niska, which is located near Nunasvaara, where Talga conducted test breaks in 2015-2016. The new test-breaking programme, which will run in several phases over three years, will start as early as 13 September.
Plans for graphite extraction have grown as Talga has mapped more deposits in the Vittangi area.

Tested by the automotive industry
- We thought we had discovered the best graphite in the world at Nunasvaara. Now we have clear evidence that the graphite in Niska is even better, says Cen Rolfsson, press manager at Talga.(a good one!)
The graphite extracted from the test quarries has to be tested against (?) partners from the automotive industry and battery manufacturing. The goal is a total production of 100,000 tonnes of anode material per year, which would make Talga the world's largest anode producer outside China.

LKAB interested in the project
SVT Norrbotten has already reported that mining giant LKAB is interested in supporting the project.
