I'm not totally against a takeover and accepting cash, however like most am sitting on gains I'd rather not hand back to the Tax Man. What I'd like to see is a price being offered that is above what SMR has traded at I the past (i.e. >$1.52), and perhaps made up of a fully franked dividend of some $0.30 ea using up all the cash on the books.
Problem we seem to be facing is that coal just isn't as investable in the broader market as it used to be. BHP is looking to offload its entire thermal coal assets, and CBA announced yesterday its wish to not fund coal after 2030. Now the latter is a mute point as it doesn't lend much cash to the sector, but is a good illustration of the change in market sentiment.
I think we need a consolidation of the coal industry and with the massive profits being made, and with scale, it would harness the market for additional support. SMR needs to become larger through either a merger of "equals" with say TER, or a full blown takeover with WHC or CRN so we can obtain script and stay invested in this lucrative industry.
