I can recall a few wells Ive worked where porosity looked ok but permeability was not good enough to allow acquisition of valid pressures with a formation test tool. In a majority of jobs I've worked if the logs indicated fair to good porosity then permeability was nearly always good enough to allow valid pressures and sampling with the formation test tool.
The main difference between reservoir properties measured in an outcrop and the same properties measured at depth in the middle of a basin is compaction and burial history. Burial history includes such things as depth of burial, temperature history and diagenetic processes.
