Someone with something sensible to say at last. Sounds like a lot of people here have being playing the biggest game in town without a clue.

I suggest they visit the asx website to find out what it's all about.

In short, the asx definition of shares is:

"A share is part ownership of a business. Shares are issued by companies to raise money. The sharemarket is where the buying and selling of company shares occurs."

You might want to read that last part again.Shares are issued by companies to "raise" money.
