I am not here to up ramp up or down ramp but have a closer look at the announcement. There had been so much anger, pain and "you see I told u so from my chart, u should have listen to me"; chart prophets claiming victory.
Remember, NOR is not a tin shed operation. Years of hard work was put into it with 6 million ?? (correct me if I am wrong) invested previously.
Being an IT person for 40 years, I can vow to you that no software release is bug free. The android release is no exception. The report clearly admits that.
"The team has responded admirably to the initial surge in Android demand, as we broke all of our daily records for downloads – adding an amazing 750,000 total new downloads in less than two weeks. We quickly tuned our digital advertising intensity and customer acquisition process to manage this high customer influx, while ensuring that our most popular calling destinations could safely deal with the increased traffic."
Their mistake was poor quality control on volume and user tests that caused all the problems. This I can understand because the unexpected volume was beyond their expectation. Is this a good thing ? It is because we want BIG volume downloads etc etc. but in this case, it became a hindrance. Perhaps they should have more insight in predicting the download volume before the release BUT hey! how long is a piece of string if it is a product which the whole world have access to it.
Good news is, they have corrected it:
“With control systems in place to handle such demand spikes, our customer team has reached out to customers that experienced demand management during this period, with great results."
I hope they have learnt from this and put better quality control procedures in place before any future release.
Many in this forum also mentioned the statistics released in the report.
"IOS is down to only 12%", average daily revenue is down 26% etc.
Look, IoS download is down due to "constrained by measured, gated access to popular calling destinations" because of large Android download. Deliberate action was taken to limit iOS access so that Android has the opportunity to be assessed. Although the average daily revenue is down, NOR is still making money at $2800 per day (excluding realization from Android).
The fundamentals are still all there. Management came out and told everyone the truth, the problems and steps taken to fix it.
"with the company looking to ensure final quality control standards are met prior to release."
