Hi guys,
Forgot i had an ipad laying around! After dusting it off and giving my own advice a go, i can confirm that this is in fact the key to login success.
You must input the number exactly as i advised earlier. Meaning you need to navigate to the '+' button, then '61', then you should notice the spaces automatically appear for the rest of the number (remember, no zero). Then you can hit continue and receive the sms code via your mobile. Put that in and you should be right to go. Probably make sure that WP has the correct permissions for microphone access and whatever and you should be up and running.
Sorry if this hijacked the original thread, just helping some brothers out...

P.s. No need for fancy hot spotting or anything, works fine over your regular home wifi connection.
