if he delivers a viable US business that looks anything like the Aussie version we will all be millionaires (figuratively speaking)!!

There's the if ... He will deserve to be well rewarded if the business scales up like the Australian one. Our fortunes rest on whether or not Newman succeeds in this. But Newman's fortunes are assured either way.
That's why I believe its better to pay a fair amount now and pay the premium amounts upon the successful completion of the task.
