Don't forget we've had a falling mining market since say 2011. When the wind blows the other way it can blow quite strongly. E.g. the general resource stock volatility is 2.6 Std deviations above the general ASX. If you're on the receiving end of that rise you'll be happier.
Don't worry I've learned plenty of hard lessons too. One is that "tough times don't last tough people do".
