Over the 2017/18 new year, to a packed tent in Lorne, at their first show of Falls Festival, singer Georgia Maq changed the lyrics to their song 'The Opener' (itself a searing condemnation of inequality in the music industry). "It's another man telling us we can't fill up a tent / It's another f***ing festival booking only nine women," she belted out, challenging Australia's largest touring festival while playing one of its stages.
Did it end well?
In August 2018, Falls Festival released its lineup for the 2018/19 new year. "Following quite a bit of controversy earlier this year about gender equality on the Falls Festival lineup, organisers are happy to be presenting a bill that sees 48% of the acts listed featuring females."
Sometimes the timing is right ... and sometimes it's not ...
