Shelf life and reliability are two of the things mentioned in the latest update that are still issues to address.
The final manufacturing method will need to be determined before such things can be known and worked on to address. Different production methods would have different impacts on shelf life and reliability.
The proposal as a large power source would suggest that they have hope that they would not necessarily be disposable imo.
