Even with the regulatory reasons it still seems like something that could have waited, at least until they received permanent approval. They could have just slapped a sticker label on it in the interim.
I'm sure the customers also really appreciated the shrinkflation aspect as well. Sounds like they get to spend more and receive less.
It's much better to win customers over and build some loyalty to the brand, then increase prices on the existing quantity. Instead it sounds like they are trying to increase margins by stealth and alienating some of their customer base at a time when they can't afford to.
