Well I would say they see the POTENTIAL for a big future, or at least the potential for a return on their investment. It should be noted also that not everyone that invests in a speculative stock does so because they see a big future for the company. Sometimes they just see that it's got a 20% chance of an 800% rise after which they will promptly divest. They still see it as having an 80% chance of failure but consider that the potential upside is greater than the downside.

With regards to Norwood, at this point only a fool would be absolutely *convinced* that it has a big future. Too many false promises, too many missed deadlines, too many failed products. Even Norwood has essentially admitted that their only commercially viable product is World Voicemail at this point. I'm not saying they can't make sales and even eventually turn profitable. I'm just saying their track record of delivery is abysmal.
