    Imo they excavated as as far as they could free-dig and rip with the dozer without blasting. It may not have been economical for shareholders, but that wouldn't have bothered them cause they weren't using their own cash.
    As long as they got enough concentrate to run through the spin and wash table.
    Imo that was always the game plan.
