The reality is for that case he was doing wash trades which is trading amongst yourself using multiple brokerage accounts to manipulate the price up and down, and as far as his hotcopper "manipulation" the only real reason he was prosecuted on that is because he left notes clearly stating his intention to manipulate the stock, that is why hes the first to be prosecuted around such manipulation on hotcopper.

All that said i honestly don't believe anyone on CI1 hotcopper forum are manipulating the price. There is no short positions to take, and the liquidity is very low. This is a case of shareholders being extremely disastifed with their directors.
