Thank you both for the clarification on this. Admittedly I was totally ignorant on this. I kind of like the ability to have this option for both parties. I suppose our 401K system is similar as we have the ability to defer savings in a company sponsored 401K until retirement.

Each company determines how much they will match. Example: My company will match 6% of 86% of what I contribute. I think this years IRS limit is $22,500 and an additional $7,500 if you are 50 yrs or older. (I don’t believe the company’s match is included in the limits?)

That last one was instituted during the Obama years because they know Social Security is insolvent. We currently have a 175 trillion unfunded liability. Americans are too stupid to do the math or understand the ramifications of this apparently.
