@papasmurf61 When stock markets are in a state of irrational exuberance, like they are now, then hoodwinking dumb shareholders with a buyback is absolutely necessary when all the signs are that the company is in a really bad state. The $400bn buyback has pumped the stock by over $500bn this morning and distracted focus on the fundamental reality that Qantas incinerates money, it has NEGATIVE book value (LOL) and its management forecasts are consistently wrong. But, duh, bUyBaCk!
