I come from the tech sector and am in my 60's and have been a CTO and CIO in the past of 700+ person companies. He is simply too old to keep up with the latest and greatest innovations, I recognise that from a creative standpoint my best days are gone and a CTO above all else needs to be creative. The sad fact is that the vast majority of the creativity for most people is done in their younger years (18-35) when they do not have preconceived ideas about how things should be. He was essentially the founder from a tech perspective and had been in it for a very long time. Fresh hopefully younger eyes will help move the technology along. Companies do not care who lives and dies, they only care about progress, they showed little to no technological progress during his tenure, not a great legacy from a CTO perspective. They should have made him an advisor to keep his knowledge and appointed a younger CTO a long time ago. Just crappy management IMO.
