I find it helpful to look at past discoveries to see who the big new early buyers are. not mgt and not previous top20. in my mind these guys are the 'smart money'
SFR is a great example. the discovery happened mid May, 4.5 months before 2009 top20. over that time the big early, non mgt, not prev top20 buyers were
- PA Henry - Feldkirchen - Resource Surveys - A & N Hansen - Washington Soul Pattinson - Woodlands Assets Management
All of these punters, probably not on the register before, acted quick, bought large positions, held at least until $3.00 (from 45c) and made a fortune i.e. smart money
SoulPatts is SoulPatts. Resource Surveys is Eduard Eshuys A&N Hansen, I am not sure but think it's Andrew Hansen of Hansen Technologies, if anyone would like set me straight?
then there's Woodlands, Henry and Feldkirchen.... I'll leave these out except to say they obvious nailed it with SFR, especially PA Henry.
Feldkirchen has no top20 holdings before SFR. I know some large players constantly use new companies to disassociate positions and I figure that's the case here. Doubt you'll see this name again. Woodlands and Henry show up in others.
for SIR, because the discovery happend late July there's really only 8-9 weeks till the top20 cut off, even better for recognising smart money
Woodlands is already top20, like SFR, I would be surprised if that holding did not increase quite a bit.
I wonder what other names will show up? If you're an outsider, like the rest of us, it's worth taking note
