EXCITING NEW FORMULA ONE RACING TEAM ENTERS THE FRAY.

After a fairly short period being developed into a form that would be ready to go racing publicly, the first gleaming new track racing car emerged from TEAM NOXOPHARM just last August and made its debut to a fanfare of acclaim and great excitement.

In the very short time it has been on the public track this vibrant and exciting newcomer has lost no time in making its mark with the racing public. The team entered the fray initially with just the one car in full racing colours. Since then however a second car with an engine variant and a new aerodynamic package, has come out of the development facility and is ready to race alongside its team mate.

The race director of TEAM NOXOPHARM and head of operations Dr Gerhard Kellerman, has proclaimed "I am very proud and quietly confident that in bringing this new team and its technology onto the very best of the worlds racing circuits to compete against the more established racing teams... we can make not only some headway with our approach to the sport, but gain a host of new fans into the bargain." Dr Kellerman then went on to say... " We realise that the established teams will not be resting on their laurels and will be going all out to do even better this racing season. I am confident we are more than ready for that challenge... and even with the relatively lean racing budget we have at present, we believe that having such a compact crew of totally dedicated race mechanics and development staff will be of no hindrance in our efforts to start winning some of the important trophies in the near future"

Speaking to some of the existing racing fans of the sport at the Albert Park street racing circuit in Melbourne Australia recently, this reporter asked them how they felt about this new team that had so recently burst upon the scene. As to be expected the opinions varied somewhat.

I spoke to one small group of fans that sat huddled at table in a dingy downtown bar talking together about "the good old days" and how none of this new fangled technology would ever amount to anything. Their mood seemed rather somber and judging by their baseball caps they were all fans of an established racing team that had changed its racing director a while back. They could not understand why their team had been performing so poorly last season in spite of having the best technology.

Meanwhile, out in the fresh air on the green in front of a giant screen replaying some of the highlights of recent races... a growing group of handsome young men and benign worldly older gents (wink) were discussing in jocular banter the breath of fresh air that this team had brought to the racing calendar. There were the usual discussions of course about engine size, aerodynamic styling and the relevant merits of the men and women behind the scenes running the various teams.... but the discussion was all in good spirit and with an underlying respect for the others opinion. It could have been no clearer to this reporter this second group had a much more open and enjoyable feel for the whole sport.

Among this latter cohort were a smaller group of mainly men that had obviously been enthusiasts on this whole subject for a long time. I think the mood of the more enlightened group was summed up by one of them when he said.

"This race has been going on for many years. There have been some disasters and some notable successes along the way. The trophies that really matter though are possibly now in sight and hopefully not too many races away. When the day comes that sees more than three first place trophy holders on the winners rostrum... then we will know that this sport has really come of age"

In the meantime, the discussion and the arguments will no doubt continue. The "Stock-car boys" and their cronies taking potshots from the sidelines at teams they hate and hope will fail. On the brighter side, more measured fans will continue to discuss the merits of the racing technology in a progressive and respectful manner. More light and much less heat.

Oh! ...and Stayso. Maybe the legacy of those "Stock-car boys" will be seen as much less damaging than speed bumps when we start to look back. I suspect they'll be much more akin to those nasty greasy bugs that splatter onto your windscreen that are difficult to dislodge with wipers alone. The good news is the next time we stop for a sandwich and gas top up...we can obliterate them completely with just a bucket of suds and strong squeegee.
