    re: Ann: NSE Presentation for Euroz Oil & Gas... If you're interested in pressure have a quick google of either lithostatic pressure, overburden pressure or verticle stress. This site is pretty decent but is focussed on metamorphism of rocks as opposed to generation of hydrocarbons but it is the same concept.

    Different pressures (depths) and geothermal gradients (heat with depth) contribute to the type of hybrocarbons produced, not to mention the intital source material and subsequent kerogens.

    Another point of interest (although not really related to NSE and the shales) is isostactic rebound which is post glacial rebound of the earth due to reduction in vertical stress/pressure that was present from overlying ice sheets.
