I'd agree with this on the most part.

As long as the intent is to seek truth i generally feel further argument/enquiry is justified. And do respect the well considered contrarian views that test my own if they are also not intentionally malicious, deceitful, devious etc.

It gets unpalatable when its about revenge/ causing harm to others/profiting from their ignorance.

I dont think anyone on here has been out to hurt in that way (with the exception of one, but im still indecided there). And as you say, contributions to the other thread may have indeed encouraged some deeper research and due dillegence. I only see positives in that even if some financially painful lessons are learnt along the way. Its the only way to grow.
