Interesting they talk about RoastingLeaching or Albion leach to recover the copper. They should also have evaluated the benefits of Ammonia leaching AMMLEACH if they are looking at technology like Albion as it really only has been implemented in one or two operations globally for primary Cu production. RLE option is interesting as its old but reliable technology. In the western world people are moving away from Roasters as they are considered dirty technology bit if you construct the plant from the outset correctly they can be clean technology with an acid plant on the back end capturing the SO2 that will get generated and use that for oxide heap leaching or selling to other operators in the region if you can do it. Sometimes becomes more of a heartache to get rid of than to produce it. Also Co will only come out as a intermediate product in all of these processes, probably as a hydroxide precipitate that will then need to be treated by someone else to get it into final metal product. Chinese own a refinery in Zambia that would take this product called Chambishi.Having a roaster also good as it will provide opportunities to recover heat that then can be used in the leaching processes.
unusual for Zambian/DRC operations that have significant high grade like 2-3% Cu that DMS processing isnt considered on the oxide material. Not sure we have material that is suitable for this but that is something I'll take a look at later in the piece when results of this latest drilling come out and see if that really is a viable option as that will be considerably cheaper than Heap leaching which is proposed for stage 1.
