"Many smart investors are probably hoping to break even"
That doesn't sound like a successful investment strategy for a smart investor.

The three year chart below shows steadily rising 100 and 200 day moving averages. A smart investor would do much better to just hold medium to long term and benefit from the rising average price rather than buy high and then hope to just get their money back - or worse still, buy high and sell low.
Depending on your entry point, the 100DMA has risen from 3.9c to 12.8c which is a gain of 230% or better than three fold increase in three years and that sure beats money in the bank, inflation or any broad stock market index.
In the last 1.5 years, returns have been closer to zero but that has included a bear market, especially hard on small caps and for MNB specifically, it has included a number of delays. We should be coming out of the effects of the bear market with good signs of global inflation falling and the repeated delays for MNB's milestones should be drawing to an end with only one milestone left that is outside of MNB's control for timing, which is securing the debt.
Selling now after 1.5 years of no sp gain is quite possibly selling just ahead of the resumption of the three year uptrend. A sp of at least 17-18c after securing final funding seems achievable. That could see a 40-50% gain from here. Even if that takes three months, it would be a very good return. Hopefully we see debt finalised within two months as guided.
