If the US goverment put potash on this list then they will take actions to ensure sufficient supply. This will also have an impact on the EU, because West Europe is (still) an importer! In my opinion the EU will have to take the same path. The BRICS countries will share their resources among themselves.
The main supplier in the EU is K+S at the moment. Their MOP production process is currently completely based on gas. So they also have to invest a lot to convert it (Project Werra 2060). And they have a huge problem with their waste salt dumps. That's why they have to keep financial provisions for more than 50 years and cannot invest them. Take a look at the balance sheets ... over 400 Mill €!
SHP will start with a brownfield project ... with existing infrastructure ... with a production process that is based on electricity where it make sense from the beginning ... zero permanent waste piles on surface ... etc.
In my opinion SHP will be competitive. That's why they will find investors.
