Archer has now advanced its 12CQ quantum chip development by nanofabricating devices
containing electric circuits that integrate microscopic quantities of its carbon-based qubit
material. The devices were fabricated on a silicon wafer using foundry-compatible lithography
processes. Archer used the devices to demonstrate that a controlled electric current can be
passed through the qubit material at room-temperature.
they've fabbed a nano silicon chip with electric circuits, part of the circuit is made up of qubit material. Then passed a current through the whole circuit and the qubit material part of the circuit behaved in exactly the way they anticipated. Therefore, qubit material has been successfully integrated into a silicon chip. Quantum can now potentially work together with classical computing in a tiny package in already manufactured and sold devices.
next they will have to measure the qubit readouts after passing currents and see if useful information can be stored in the qubits ( that is, pass a value to a qubit, and it stores it), and then use that value(s) to do some linear algebra, (array math), which is used in machine learning, deep learning statistical calcs. The actual use cases are varied. Everything from simple image, spech recognition to key words used in sentiment analysis. ...to simple encryption management. I personally like the idea of generating my own passwords and encryption with a master fingerprint rather than having to remember a ton of them. Will be interesting to see what it actually gets used for and that will of course determine the value of this in a mobile device. We all wait in anticipation...
btw, did we notice no mention of Global Foundries. All Archer staff's work and an Australian foundry was used, if we read the captions under pics. These guys are killing it! Are governments and defence peeps ( the ones who prefer using tech to help in avoiding conflict) watching this?
