Back to ETFs, I mean obviously that efficiency argument has been going on for a long time - we need actives and passives in the ecosystem, my comment was restricted to index or even a good quality managed fund is best for the investor who wants to sleep at night knowing their portfolio is well diversified and won't go through a downward spiral like Magellan, Telstra, AGL that we've seen over the years.
By the way most broad market ASX ETFs pay dividends quarterly which I think is pretty sweet (active funds pay twice or sometimes even once). When it comes to retirement planning I'd prefer four paychecks a year as opposed to just two.
