A very good question. The medical fraternity can be very slow at times. They really need large trials to get the product 'out there', however that means millions of $ to be committed. Running international trails on large numbers of pts is a very expensive business.
It can't be done on the smell of an oily rag.
So their only option, IMO, is to punt the tech around for a larger mob to take this on, and I'm sure they have spent the last few years doing this. The obvious candidate would have been approached a number of times, alas to no avail to date.
