Thanks to D&S for a thoughtful post. Note that errors in IVF are usually due to human error, not misreading of tags. For example, putting a sample in the wrong tube, etc. This includes all tagging strategies whether they are QR, 2D, 3D, RFID (yes, there are tags that work well in liquid nitrogen), BCT, etc. I'm not sure how switching tag type increases reliability if the sample was put in the wrong tube. This is a management/training failure, not hardware.
For the IVG market the performance standards are already quite high. For example, check out www.tmrwlifesciences.com This is a fully integrated system (tagged tubes, storage, software) that is approved by the US FDA and is what Irvine Scientific (Fuji) & BCT are up against. There are others.
