In fact I reckon Fukushima may have hastened the ideas about SMR's, not sure if they would have helped in that situation or not? because of water hitting the extremely hot reactor? but I think the fact that some are actually in the ground with a protective cover over the top, would have prevented that, and loss of power to them is not a problem either, because most have no pumps, some do have internal ones though, but others just rely on a gravity effect and drop the fuel load, while others just rely on air cooling.
