Newcrest wasn't the first quality Aussie gold miner gobbled up by Newmont at a bargain basement price right before the pog moved up big time.
Normandy mining comes to mind. After they completed the takeover they closed out all the hedges and enjoyed the benifits of a rapidly rising Gold price.
Its just a funny coincidence that NST later bought back some of Normandy's best assets at a steep discount which made the company what it is today.
