Yesterday's after market flurry of buying now looks like one or a few short sellers, who were "caught short" needing to deliver stock they had sold short and hadn't covered in the day market; probably because he was too cheap with his bid price. Short sellers always have a risk that the lender can demand the shares loaned be returned on virtually no notice. It's a short squeeze, but often only against one short player and has no lasting effect on the prevailing market price.
Those short sellers can be wiped out by this move if they were borrowing from a major player who decides to cash in on the position. By doing the deed A/H they can control the price and the volume without the risk of retail shareholders offering cheaper stock which would reduce their profits. The short seller is screwed. No sympathy from me, however.
