I do agree hydrocarbon generation is not the only driver of pore pressure, but to conclude it is not a primary, and therefore independent of GOR is a stretch for me
There are 3 primary causes of overpressure we should be able to agree on
Disequilibrium compaction, compresses the fluids trapped in the reservoir
Temperature causing the reservoir fluids to expand whilst trapped within the reservoir
Hydrocarbon generation, creating molecules with higher vapour pressure
All three will add to pore pressure so need to be given equal weight.
The statements highlighted in the post do not appear to disagree, for example
Creation and retention of over-pressure is not strictly due to petroleum generation.
Petroleum generation can account for SOME of the over-pressure
Yes agreed it is also due to temperature and compaction, but hydrocarbon generation still remains a cause.
The discussion in my view focusses around which of the 3 causes is the most difficult to predict, and therefore the most likely to be less reliable.
If it proves to be the GOR prediction, the upside is the higher pressure detected in IW2 wireline testing will lead to higher total flow, hopefully compensating for any reduced liquid percentage per unit of flow.
