Very well explained and just highlights that at the scales involved for oil liberation from the pores in the shale the intuition most people have from the macro does not apply.
At the micro where inter-molecular forces like surface tension and wettabilty dominate it is a different game to the human experience, much like how an insect can skate on water because it does not break the surface tension but a human can not.
