88 Energy’s Drill Rig is Now on its Way to Drill One of the Biggest Wells of 2020 88 Energy Ltd (AIM | ASX: 88E) is now just days away from the highly anticipated spudding of the Charlie-1 well on the North Slope of Alaska. The Nordic Calista Rig-3 has been mobilised and is now barrelling down Alaska’s Dalton Highway from Deadhorse to Mile 386 en route to its final destination at 88E’s Project Icewine. The project’s Charlie-1 appraisal well is set to test a gross mean prospective resource of 1.6 billion barrels of oil with net 480M barrels to 88E, piercing through seven stacked targets. Once the rig arrives at site, this coming weekend will see the spudding of potentially the biggest oil well of 2020, globally, with early results expected within just weeks. 88E has outlined a strategy to fast track resource delineation to enable monetisation of the asset on success. Oil Search (ASX: OSH) paid US$3.10 per barrel for a 2C resource to enter the North Slope of Alaska in a US$850M transaction in 2017, back when oil was trading at US$40/bbl. Brent oil is now selling for US$58/bbl, and Alaskan oil trades at a premium to this price. The North Slope continues to be a hive of activity for oil companies with multiple sale processes being run. If 88E can make a significant discovery and confirm a multi-hundred million barrel resource, it might not take long for the asset to attract some serious offers.
