Hi Valueharvest, the simple answers is yes, and no....
Physics dictate that gas molecules trapped under water pressure on coal surfaces will get released when pressure is decreased. Simples (he said bravely), desorption... What you may be referring to is being able to depressurize, ie can enough water be produced to lower the pressure to release the gas... which is among many other things a function of aquifer support, how much water enters the aquifer, water leg, to support the pressure regime. The purpose of the exercise is to beat the pressure regime, extract more water than the aquifer supplies, lower the pressure, hey presto.... Locally, this will always be possible, but one doesn't want this to be locally, one wants to cover the largest area possible... solution, drill more wells and suck the bg's out of it, outrun the system if that is what is required. This may sound ominous, it is not, it is a part of the function of well spacing, well count, spacing configuration (optimizing on fracture orientation) and a whole lot of other factors, which, statistically , can be satisfactorily managed in a field development plan. So, it may need more wells to out run the aquifer, but one will, and we will then have more wells to produce gas from.
Now the above is a slightly simplistic view of a development plan, generics, but is in essence the exercise that will be played, ie answering the question: what is the minimum number of wells to effectively drain the reservoir, what is the spacing required to achieve this.
