There's a Rick Ruleism for this (like most things):
'Small mines have all the risks of big mines, but a small mine will never make you big money'.
There are sometimes exceptions but I've found it to be a pretty good rule of thumb. Even though I made money holding OBM and pressed the ejector-seat button just before it started going bad, in hindsight it probably wasn't worth the risk to bother with.
