Yeah, once the dividend goes Ex there's no ability to claw it back for a takeover anyway.
Usually the Register that administers the dividend gives the companies a preferred payment time-frame, which allows them to get as many EFT details as possible on file. It's a pain for everyone to either have to send queues out or have people apply to have old dividends credited.
