just got back into reception. Great to see you are using QGIS and more than happy to help answer any questions you might have although most of my experience is in arc map. The 40m discrepancy could be due to different projections. For example the image will be stretched differently depending on what projection its in. I'll have a play when I get chance and let you know. Great work, looks awesome overlayed with transparency.
