Pure speculation. The Tata presentation was not of a robot but of a camera and a lap top with AKIDA technology doing hand gesture identification live at a sales convention. The slides stated that Arijit Mukherjee was looking forward to building a robot based on the AKD1000 technology. Peter van der Made clearly stated that it was a demonstration of a robot doing gesture identification - what is that term 'Freudian Slip' perhaps??????
Read up on Tata Consulting Services robotics division they have a priority research area trying to make robots more effective at working with and responding to human co workers. Hand gesture recognition is very important to this division.
