Europe sold over 97,000 EVs in August and is heading for over 1million EV sales in 2020, with significant growth expected in 2021 as their strict emissions come into effect from the 1st of January 2021.

"CO2 emissions targets for 2021: car makers face millions in fines

‘The fine for 1g over your target is €95 multiplied by all of your volume,’ says Kia Europe’s Artur Martins. ‘For Kia that’s 500,000 cars. So almost a €50 million fine for 1g over the limit!’

Clearly the bigger the miss, and the bigger the volume, the more a car maker will have to pay. PA Consulting has forecast the CO2 average in 2021 for Europe’s 13 biggest car groups, based on their projected sales mix, vehicle weights and electrification strategy (see graphic below). The consultants project that Ford and Fiat-Chrysler won't hit their targets, calculating they face enormous fines equating to 10% of their 2017 global earnings. However, Ford of Europe president Stuart Rowley said 'we will be compliant,' speaking to CAR at the firm's big electrified product announcement in early April 2019.

Volkswagen Group is staring down the barrel of a €1.4 billion penalty. As for Kia, ‘If we keep the sales mix as it is today, we will be 5g above the target,’ says Martins. ‘We have to increase the mix: we need to be 30% electrified by year-end 2020.’ "

Tesla Model 3 was #1 in August, while Ford Kuga PHEV has become the #1 PHEV in Europe.
August 2020 was another spectacular month for plug-in electric car sales inEuropeasnearly 97,500new passenger plug-ins were registered,171% morethan a year ago.
The volume was slightly lower than in the record July, but the market share improved to11%,which means that more than 1 in 10 new cars sold is some kind of plug-in.
The market is currently divided into two nearly equal parts - some 51.5% are BEVs (over 50,000), and 48.5% are PHEVs. However, because PHEVs increased by 285%, while BEVs by "only" 112%, soon plug-in hybrids may become the majority.

After eight months, nearly 612,000 plug-ins were sold in Europe. The average market share is 8.4% and grows.

The most popular models
Since theRenault ZOEresults weakened in August (to 6,183), the improvingTesla Model 3has become the best selling plug-in for the month with 7,020 registrations. Those two models are racing for first place for the year and ZOE is on the lead (52,150 VS 41,047).

The third best for the month was theFord Kuga PHEV(Ford Escape PHEVin the U.S.) with 5,055 copies.
While the Volkswagen e-Golf is third YTD (24,489), an interesting thing happened below, as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV fell from #4 to #7, overtaken by Hyundai Kona Electric, Audi e-tron and Ford Kuga PHEV in a single month. Soon, those three EVs might also beat e-Golf, which is going to retire after the Volkswagen ID.3 ramp-up.
In the case of the Ford Kuga PHEV, we must note that now it's the top-selling plug-in hybrid model in Europe.

Below is VW US President Scott Keogh launching the ID.4 SUV! I wonder who's graphite anode and or SCC DPMG and or electrolytes they will be using in their batteries?

We need to remember that Novonix is a battery materials supplier across the entire battery materials spectrum....not just a graphite anode supplier, not just a lithium supplier, not just a cathode supplier, not just an electrolytes supplier.

Over the next 12-18 months, we need to keep an eye out for multiple supply and license agreements.....Samsung SDI expansion of volume, Sanyo/Panasonic for Tesla & Toyota, SK Innovation for VW & GM, LG Chem for GM and VW......

Funny how VW is sourcing from both LG & SK given that they've been at each others throat in court . Indicates to me the need / demand outweighs current supply so much so that these matters don't matter (for now) .
