Three Korean battery companies will participate in the battery expo'Interbattery 2020' and present the'next-generation secondary battery technology'. 'InterBattery 2020' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Battery Industry Association will be held at COEX, Gangnam, Seoul from the 21st to the 23rd. At the expo, core technologies of'K-battery' such as batteries for automobiles, smartphones, and energy storage devices (ESS) and battery core materials will be presented. InterBattery, which marks its eighth year this year, is the world's three largest battery expo along with Japan's Battery Japan and China's Battery Fair. A total of 198 domestic battery companies will attend this year's event to showcase their technology. At this event, attention is focused on the'future battery technology' that LG Chem, Samsung SDI, and SK Innovation unveil. Currently, the secondary battery used in electric vehicles is a lithium-ion battery. The battery industry has the advantage of allowing the liquid electrolyte used in lithium ion to conduct electricity well, but there is a possibility that explosion may occur depending on the environment such as high temperature, external shock, and aging, so it is looking for a new battery technology to replace it. LG Chem introduces next-generation battery technologies such as lithium sulfur (Li-S), all-solid, and long-life batteries at InterBattery 2020. The actual lithium-sulfur battery, which was recently mounted on a drone and successfully tested flight, will also be disclosed.

Samsung SDI also unveils an all-solid-state battery development roadmap that is aimed at mass production in 2027. The all-solid-state battery is a future battery technology developed by Samsung SDI that makes the electrolyte itself solid so that the positive and negative electrodes do not physically meet each other without the internal separator of the liquid electrolyte battery. Therefore, it withstands impact and pressure well, is resistant to environmental changes, and can be manufactured in a desired shape. Samsung SDI will divide into four categories: small, automobile, ESS, and E-mobility, and will introduce each battery technology. In addition, in order to increase the understanding of the audience, a large display was installed at the top of the booth and the company introduction video was decided to be played.
